Incorporated in 1965, the Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services is a member of a national network of Community Action Agencies that were established to design and operate programs that help low income individuals and families become more self-sufficient and improve their independence in safe, affordable living conditions.

During its 50 plus years of existence, the Action Committee has assisted thousands of residents through its various programs and is considered a major source of information and referral in the county. The agency maintains a close working relationship with many of the county’s other service providers, with agency staff serving on several area boards and committees and vice versa. In order to maximize benefits to those in need in our communities, every effort is made to coordinate services with other available services. We are a member of the United Way of Carbon County and also serve as the Salvation Army contact for some portions of the county. The agency is also a member of the national Community Action Partnership, the National Community Action Foundation, and the Community Action Association of PA.

The Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services’ 15 member Board of Directors generally meet at the Lehighton Recreation Center at 3PM on the third Wednesday of each month with the exception of August and December. Meeting are open to the public, but interested persons should call 610-377-6400 x. 221 prior to 2:30PM to confirm the meeting has not been cancelled or rescheduled.

UPDATE: 3/19/20 – Due to Covid-19 Pandemic, the Board of Directors now meet via conference call during the same timeframe listed above. Anyone interested in participating in these meetings should call the office for more details concerning call number and access code.
